How to Stop Your Automated Ads on Facebook

The campaign-level toggle is the control that stops all ads in 1 automated Facebook campaign at once. In Meta Ads Manager, open the relevant ad account, find the campaign and switch its delivery setting from On to Off. This stops delivery for the ad sets and ads inside that campaign.

How Do You Stop Automated Ads in Meta Ads Manager?

To stop automated Facebook ads, follow these steps:

  1. Open Meta Ads Manager.
  2. Select the correct ad account.
  3. Open the Campaigns tab.
  4. Find the campaign labeled Automated Ads, Advantage+ Sales, Advantage+ Leads or a similar name.
  5. Switch the campaign toggle from On to Off.
  6. Check the Delivery column. It should show Off, Inactive or Paused.

To stop only one advert, open the campaign, select the Ads tab and switch off the individual ad. Other ads in the campaign can continue running.

People with the required Facebook Page or task access can create, manage and delete ads through Meta Business Suite and Ads Manager.

Which Level Should You Turn Off?

The level you choose determines how much advertising stops.

Every ad in the campaignCampaigns tabStops the campaign, its ad sets and its ads
One audience or budget groupAd sets tabStops that ad set only
One image, video or advertAds tabStops that ad only

Pause a campaign instead of deleting it if you may need it later. Pausing stops delivery while keeping the campaign available for review or future use.

How Do You Stop the Automation but Keep Advertising?

If you want to keep advertising but stop Meta from controlling targeting, placements, budget allocation or creative changes, review the campaign settings instead of pausing the entire campaign.

Meta's Advantage+ tools can automate placements, audience expansion, budget delivery and creative enhancements. The controls available to you depend on the campaign objective and the options shown in your ad account.

  1. Open the campaign in Ads Manager.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Review the settings at the campaign, ad set and ad levels.
  4. Look for Advantage+, Advantage+ audience, Advantage+ placements, Advantage+ creative or automated enhancements.
  5. Turn off any setting that Meta allows you to control.
  6. If there is no manual option, create a new campaign using the manual setup available for that objective.

Some Advantage+ campaign types do not have one switch for every automated feature. If you need to stop the automation immediately, pause the campaign and create a new one with the manual settings you need.

What Should You Check If the Ads Keep Running?

If adverts still appear after you switch off a campaign, check the following:

  • Campaign level: The campaign may still be active even if one ad is off.
  • Ad set and ad levels: Another ad set or advert may be running separately.
  • Boosted posts: A post promoted directly from a Facebook Page may be separate from the campaign you checked in Ads Manager.
  • Correct ad account: Confirm that you are viewing the ad account linked to the charge or advert.
  • Other campaigns: Search the Campaigns tab for every campaign with an active delivery status.
  • Automated rules: Check Rules, Automated Rules or Automatic Adjustments for settings that can change delivery or reactivate campaigns. Meta has introduced account-level automatic adjustments that can affect campaign structure, audiences and creative settings.
  • Existing spend: Turning off an ad stops new delivery. It does not remove impressions, clicks or charges recorded before the ad was paused.

What If You Mean the Ads You See on Facebook?

If you are a Facebook user rather than an advertiser, you cannot normally remove every advert from Facebook. You can reduce personalization, manage advertising preferences and hide individual advertisers.

Open the menu on an advert and select Why am I seeing this ad? to review the available controls. Meta also provides advertising and personalization settings in Accounts Center, including options related to ad preferences and activity from other businesses.
